“This is a terrible Staples Easy button (”That was easy!”) that I added a 1Meg pot to control pitch way way down until it now sounds really quite interesting, in a grainy, annoying, girl-killer-frequency (you know what I mean…) kind of way.
It was a very simple bend. Removed one resistor (there were only two) and replaced it with the pot. The hard part was fitting it inside the case. I ended up cutting a chunk out of the board that was just ground traces, put in the pot, then jumper wired the ground back together. It all fit nicely after that. And looks good too.”

If you are wanting to make circuit boards using the UV exposure method you may want to recycle an old scanner into your UV light source.
“I opted for 3 tubes (around 8 Euro each), with ballasts and starters (6/7 Euro for each set). The switch, fuse holder and mains socket I scavenged from somewhere.
For the bottom plane I used a tin sheet. This acts as a sort of mirror/diffuser for UVs.
I used also some scrap aluminum bars from kitchen furnitures, their colour in the pictures tell it. Spacers and screws as required.
Now, the pictures show the electric diagram and the interior of the UV bed.
The circuit is based on three TL5 8W wood light tubes. Each tube is powered by its own ballast and starter . The number of tubes can be increased at will. The circuit is provided with a safety fuse and a power switch. A power socket […]

Looks like less is more when trying to master flight. This small helicopter is using a brain that is based on the brain of an insect!

This instructable shows how to build your own RF probe. The parts needed might already be in your parts bin!
“Probe for measuring in the Radio Frequency range built inside an earphone jack, designed to have minimum capacitance and complete shielding.
What is needed:
A diode. Germanium point contact, OA79 or 1N34 is the preferred and traditional choice. But a modern substitute will be a schottky (gold bonded) diode. These have a low forward voltage, below 250 millivolts or so, versus the 600 or so of the silicon diode.
A few capacitors, chip type, value not critical, around 1 nf to 100 nf. (or 1000 pf to 0.1 microfarad)
One resistor, 1 Megohm.
One stereo earphone jack.

Ever wonder how induction heating worked? Me too… Penguin Labs has an informative article about some of their experiments.

They are able to heat certain metals up to their melting points, and that is very hot, obviously…
How they work?
When an alternating electric current is passed through a coil, the coil creates a magnetic field. The magnetic lines of flux cut through the air around the coil. If a ferrous material, such a solid bar of iron is inserted into this coil, certain effects known as eddy currents are induced to flow in the metal bar. This causes localised heating, and ultimately heats up the metal bar.

Have a look at the parts list below. It doesn’t take much to make your own shake light!
“Make magnet tube:
This part could really be made from anything (i.e. stiff paper), I used the pen because the magnets just fit inside the tube. Cut your tube a little smaller than the length of the Tic-Tac box. Find some washers or plugs to use as end caps, these could also be made out of paper. Mine were plastic gears with the teeth sanded off. Stick all 4 magnets together and put them in the tube. Glue on your endcaps being careful not to get any glue on the magnets.
PARTS:
150 ft. 30 gauge enamel-coated magnet wire
4 1/8″ rare earth magnets
4 rectifier diodes (IN4007 MIC)
Resistor (22 ohm)

Here is an digital audio project that uses S/PDIF.
“Here’s a very trivial S/PDIF transmitter hack for portable MiniDiscs and other digital audio devices lacking S/PDIF output.
The s/pdif transmitter runs from +5V, 44kHz 16bit input at 384xfs, is set to consumer mode output, and doesn’t transmit any COPY bit (copyright protection disabled). The board can be connected directly to a PC motherboard, or via a Toshiba TOTX173 to an optical cable feed, or with a small transformer to a coax line.”

Hacked Gadgets friend FastMHz has been busy doing all sorts of experiments, and this crazy mad scientist has captured it on tape for our enjoyment! Not sure if all fingers and toes are still accounted for, I think I would be hiding (cowering) behind something solid for most of these tests.
After watching the video those wall mounted can crushers seem so useless, I want to crush cans using a huge electrical discharge! I also have never seen a water capacitor, hopefully FastMHz can fill us in on how to build it and how well it works…
