This is pretty neat, the prototype was made with a 3D printer too–
Neochroma is a mobile phone attachment that puts a big screen into the palm of your hand.
The installed base of camera phones has reached 850 million in 2006. 1.5 billion are predicted for 2010 (source: Lyra Research).
While billions of shots are taken every year, tiny screens limit camera phone usage. With Neochroma, a large and vibrant image can be enjoyed instantly.
Neochroma can be used for navigation applications as well.
It is stereoscopic (that is, it shows life-like 3D), and can be built very inexpensively.

A MAKE reader writes -
“This is one of the coolest things I’ve done with my cell phone in a while. YouMail is essentially a replacement voice mail for your cell phones. Among many features, it allows you to record unique voice greetings for anyone who calls you, based on their caller ID. You can also check your voice messages like normally do, but also via the web like Vonage. They also have a “ditchmail” feature that hangs up on unwanted callers after your custom greeting for them is played. Now THAT’s cool. It works with all the carriers except Sprint and it’s free. “ - Link.
I’ve heard about this from a few folks and it also appeared in the latest Popular Science, so it’s likely worth trying out. If anyone uses it and loves/hates it post up in the comments.

Jason made a cardboard version of the iPhone to show how it sizes up against other devices…
“Apple’s new iPhone looks like a thing of beauty. Widescreen touch interface, no buttons, runs OS X, useful widgets, integrated email, Google Maps, Google/Yahoo search, visual voicemail (see who voicemail is from before you call), SMS, Wifi, etc. etc. Oh, and it plays music.
A lot of people are wondering just how big this thing is. Using the technical specs from apple.com, I grabbed some cardboard, scissors, and glue and made a scale model of the iPhone. Here it is…” - Link.
I have a feeling a lot of people are going to carry around cardboard versions of this phone for awhile… On a related note, I should know the materials used on the iPhone shortly and I’m 99% sure it will look great once customized, with a freaking laser.

Rarely do we want to take something apart so much… Apple’s new phone, the iPhone looks great, can’t wait to poke at it… Since it uses Mac OS X the mantra at launch seems to be about build real (un-crippled) desktop level applications.
Also interesting, during a slight tech issue Steve Jobs apparently talked about TV jammers he and Steve Woz built when he was younger, love it.

Stephen needed a bluetooth case mod to functionally hide his snazzy phone!
When i got my $1000/€900 I-mate JasJar last week I certainly wanted to do anything possible to stop it being stolen, So I came up with the idea of having a phone shell that has a bluetooth headset mounted inside so it doesn’t appear that i have a JasJar, but instead a cheap old phone, in my case a Nokia 3330. - Link
